Walking up 103rd street today recording with #Mapillary (I know, purchased by Meta recently), am struck again by the presence of cars lining the streets. I have to walk down the middle of the block to get nice photos of the lovely buildings on the Upper West Side that aren't just photos of late model cars.

The Marseilles Senior Living building on West 103rd Street in Manhattan viewed via Mapillary. A white building with a planter and safety stone and a couple of plastic bollards in front on a side street on the Upper West Side of Manhattan just west of Broadway.

Good morning #Fediverse
It's Monday, so let's find out what we all have planned for the day and the week ahead.
For me, it's work stuff as usual with a meeting at 12pm EST. After that, I'll be heading out with my neighbor to go pick up a truck load of mulch and dirt so we can redo the planters and the mulch around the bushes along the front sidewalk.
Ton…

An image with a cup of coffee on a saucer, a planter in the top right corner and a white card that says good morning Monday with a smiley face in a thin black font. All of this is sitting on a wood table of some sort.

It's time for another episode of Future Urban Farmer! Get ready for more planter modifications, planting preparations, and the exciting part - planting Burpee's Short n Sweet carrots. To add an extra layer of fun, we have included a Morse code puzzle to start with.

It’s raining buckets in the Mission and these anti-homeless planter barricades do nothing to improve drainage. In fact unlike proper sidewalk gardens, they make flooded sidewalks worse. #hostileHorticulture

Ugly metal tanks with tiny succulents on the sidewalk block the path to a Muni bus stop.

#SilentSunday
Violets in my front yard.

Photo closeup. A small bunch of violets in my front yard. Escapees from a planter we bought last year have re-emerged as early harbingers of the new spring. I’m not a gardener. I don’t plant things but I do buy planters of flowers to put out. As best I can determine these are some kind of violet. Small clusters of them started appearing several weeks ago, in early March. They’re the only ones that have showed up like this. I’d love it if they managed to spread out and cover the space. April 2024

Decided to delete the photo out of respect for the unhoused person in question but…
Today I passed by a plaza that SF DPW filled with anti-homeless planter barricades, and saw that there was still someone staying in a tent in the small area that they left unobstructed.
#HostileHorticulture doesn’t work, even on its own cruel terms.
